Objectives
To ensure that the talents and resources of volunteers and employees are utilised to the full and that no job applicant, volunteer or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of perceived religious affiliation, gender, marital status, disability or is disadvantaged by condition or requirements which cannot be shown to be relevant to performance.
Policy
To this end, The Northern Ireland Piping and Drumming School will:
Fulfill its social responsibility towards its volunteers and employees and the communities in which it operates;
Recognise its legal obligations under the Fair Employment (N.I.) Act 1989 and the Sex Discrimination (N.I.) Order 1976;
Review periodically its selection criteria and procedures to maintain a system where individuals are selected, promoted and treated solely on the basis of their merits and abilities which are appropriate to the job;
Seek to give all volunteers and employees equal opportunity and encouragement to progress within the organisation by implementing a positive action programme;
Distribute and publish this policy statement throughout The Northern Ireland Piping and Drumming School and elsewhere as is from time to time appropriate;
Provide facilities for any volunteer or employee who believes that inadequate treatment has been applied to him/her within the scope of this policy to raise the matter through the appropriate grievance procedure.
Responsibilities
All volunteers and employees have a responsibility to accept their personal involvement in the practical application of this policy but specific responsibility falls upon the Committee members, managers, supervisors and staff professionally involved in recruitment, employee administration and training.
All volunteers and employees are required to comply with The Northern Ireland Piping and Drumming School’s policy of not permitting the display of flags, emblems, posters, graffiti, etc, or the circulation of literature which is likely to offend or cause apprehension among particular groups of employees and participants.
